New Idea:

If NBC is stupid enough to trade the voice of a rising generation for a last gasp of ratings from a fading, less lucrative age group that prefers their comedy with warm milk to whiskey and Jolt cola, there’s nothing we can do about it.

Clearly, when future Television/Film students sit in the classrooms I did, ten years from now, and read about the NBC late night wars on their holographic, telegraphic Kindles, they’ll all recoil in shock that Conan O’Brien, revolutionary late night king that made FOX THE home for comedy, once hosted The Tonight Show, until the now-subscriber based NBC, which at one point was a prestigious network, ran him off the air and replaced him with a guy with a big chin, a lisp and a disdain for his audience.

HOWEVER, if they are just trying to spite Conan (which obviously is part of their motivation at this point, and will still lead to FOX’s future dominance once Conan solidifies his army there and Leno’s audience begins, very soon, to start going to sleep after the 10 o’clock hour anyway), and are still interested in having some ballsy comedy in The Tonight Show slot, how about Jimmy Kimmel taking over?

Because this is just about the ballsiest late night appearance I have ever seen. He had a smart, biting response for everything Jay asked — and you could tell he was even holding back some of the nastiest stuff. It exposed Leno as old, slow and beyond past his prime, light years behind a new generation of comics, and NBC execs should watch this video very, very closely before they pull the trigger on the gun they’ve placed against their network’s head.

Admittedly, I don’t watch a lot of Jimmy, because of time slot (he’s on at 12:00, which is mid-Conan), but you can bet that a lot of people, including myself, will have a new late-night lineup of Stewart, Colbert and Kimmel, at least until Conan’s inevitable new show on FOX comes on air.

Then, us young people might use what they call the “internet” or “DVR” to watch things after they air. Keep an eye on those “innovations” NBC, they may be important in the future.
