A Hard Day’s Night — The Beatles
John took it upon himself to write the top single for their movie of the same name. They based the entire film’s name, and thus the song, and a Ringo malapropism — after a long concert, he said, “whew, it’s been a hard day’s night.” Obviously.
This is the first part of the movie, the rest of it easily accessible by clicking through the frame. Notice at about 5:20, when Lennon “sniffs” his “coke” bottle. Yes, in 1964 Britain in a mass marketed film about the clean cut national obsession.
That’s the type of stuff Lennon did. It’s also notable that the film’s director didn’t think much of his on screen potential at first — he thought he didn’t give a shit, wasn’t trying, and spent most of his time on the sidelines, analyzing people and picking out their weaknesses.
