METS TO WEAR NEW PINSTRIPE HOME UNIFORM IN 2010

The New York Mets today announced they will wear a new pinstripe home uniform next season inspired by the early years of the franchise. The design combines new and old elements of Mets uniforms. The Mets created the retro uniform following research and positive responses to the jerseys the 1969 World Champion Mets wore during their 40th anniversary celebration in August.
The natural color and pinstripes were staples of the original Mets uniform when the team debuted in 1962. The Mets will also continue to wear their white uniform at home with the black jerseys as an alternate.

When I was an obsessive-compulsive kid, I needed a new Mets’ jersey every year. And I was obsessed with the pinstriped jersey. I loved my first pinstriped, but then they added the drop shadow with the whole stupid, contrived “Mets in black” campaign. So I had to get that jersey, too.
Now that I am sane and poor (not sure which one is more prominent in this situation), I’ve held off buying another jersey, even as they changed the material and maker. I love the old classic colors and pinstripes, and am glad they’re bringing them back. But the drop shadow bothers me, and the fact that they’re keeping the hideous black road jersey is dumb, too.
Leave it to the Mets to half botch a great idea.
