It Was All Worth It
I’ve always wanted to email Bill Simmons and maybe by some miracle make it into his column, which is invariably the biggest article each week on ESPN.com. The Sports Guy, as he’s known, is a TV comedy writer, published author and God of 20-something sports fans.
Finally, last Sunday, deep in my convalescence, I decided to take the plunge. And I made the cut.

Mean JaMarcus Russell E-Mails/Tweets (+3) over MEAN BRAD CHILDRESS E-MAILS/TWEETS
A dramatic shift over the past seven days once everyone ran out of ways to make jokes about Childress’ creepy beard. Much like the Jets, he started out like gangbusters and can’t keep up the momentum. Meanwhile …Jordan from Brooklyn: “I’m pretty certain that I could underthrow fewer wide open receivers than JaMarcus Russell, and I’m four days out of open heart surgery. I also think I’d have a better pocket presence, and I’m on a steady diet of Percocet.”
Funny story: I sat on the couch for hours, watching that terrible Giants game and thinking about sending the email. A few times, I passed out, waking up thinking that I had sent it already before coming to my senses. Yes, I was on heavy doses of medication.
Glad I fought the fog and actually did it — now my heart surgery can be exploited for laughs by the entire nation. No, really, I really am glad I sent it. It’s a pretty big thrill to get printed by the Sports Guy. Even if it took open heart surgery to do it.
